Germany Debates Turning Back On What It Proudly Turned OffDuitsland discussieert over het weer aanzetten van wat het trots uitzette
Germany debates restarting reactors it shut down in 2023; there is no majority for itDuitsland debatteert over reactoren die in 2023 dichtgingen; een meerderheid ervoor is er niet
Germany switched off its last three nuclear reactors in April 2023. Since then, studies and lobby groups keep arguing that several of them could still be restarted, possibly around 2031, while a Bundestag motion to examine the idea was voted down and there is no political majority for a return.
In a stunning display of hindsight, the country now debates whether switching off power plants before replacing them was entirely wise. The green transition continues; it simply takes longer than promised.
Reality, as it turns out, is remarkably stubborn.
